Open Educational Resources (OER): About OER

Guide to Open Educational Resources

Welcome to the OER Guide

This guide is a listing of information and resources for Open Educational Resources (OER) that may be adapted for use in your classroom. CCSF Librarians are here to help you navigate your way through this process.

Why use OER? OER can help provide affordable access to course materials (e.g. textbooks) and can also give faculty the opportunity to customize course materials that correspond with specific course content.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

Open Educational Resources (OER)  is defined by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as:

..."any type of educational materials that are in the public domain or introduced with an open license. The nature of these open materials means that anyone can legally and freely copy, use, adapt and re-share them. OERs range from textbooks to curricula, syllabi, lecture notes, assignments, tests, projects, audio, video and animation."
