There (really) is an app for that! Promoting research skills with cloud-friendly tech tools: Feedly

Library Links

Do you follow blogs and/or regularly check the same websites?  Feedly allows you to subscribe to web content and get it delivered into one simple, clear interface.

Feedly works on your computer, tablet or phone. It's also a great way to share articles with others, via email, twitter, or other social network tools.

Set up a Feedly account here:

Feedly is especially good on mobile devices, so be sure to check the iphone app store or google play store for the feedly apps.

Feedly Quick Tips

This tutorial will get you up and running with Feedly.

You can search for sources that you like and Feedly will find them and subscribe, or you can browse through Feedly's suggestions.

You can also set up feeds on topics of interest simply by searching for things and selecting relevant feeds.  Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the suggestions though, so you can choose to subscribe to Google news or youtube updates.

Power tip:

Looking for something on Craigslist?  Say a used car or a teak armoire?

  • Run your search on the Craiglist site.  Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the orange RSS symbol.  Click on that, then copy the url.
  • Back in Feedly, paste the RSS url in the Feedly Add Content box.  You'll now receive all new postings related to your search terms.
  • This works for all sites that generate RSS (really simple syndication) feeds.
